Taste Profile

Shiraz has the well characteristic flavor of spicy and peppery blackberry and plum. Also flavors of mocha, dark chocolate and licorice is often added. The warmer climate brings with itself the rather mellower and sweeter flavor. Whereas the colder climate spices the wine up equally.Already attempted aren't you?? .It is a very versatile wine which can be made from driest of choice to the sweetest. The fruity flavor it holds goes well amazingly with roasted meat .Toffee notes if present come not from the fruit but from the wine having rested in oak barrels.
The shiraz variety has a spicy and hearty red. While shiraz is the main components for blending various wines,it is also used to produce the darkest ,finest and deepest wines of the world, containing intense flavorings of spicy red having brilliant longevity.
Wines made from Shiraz are very powerfully flavored with a wide range of taste notes. The flavor notes hugely depends upon the soil ,climate etc..The heavy aroma of this wine generally ranges from violets to berries ,espresso, black pepper and the yummilicious CHOCOLATE!!!..Really i mean what else to ask for,so many flavors in one bottle of wine.!!
History
The Shiraz grape was once thought to have originated in Persia, but recent research indicates the grape is a native of the Rhone valley, in France. Yes, there is a town in the middle east named Shiraz that has made wine for centuries. However, that town is NOT where the Shiraz grape came from. According to some historic accounts, Guy De'Sterimberg brought Shiraz to southern France after visiting Iran during the crusades. Eventually, he became a hermit and created a vineyard on a hill near his home in the Rhone River Valley. This wine became known as the Hermitage.

Another legend of the grape variety's origin, based on the name Syrah, is that it was brought from Syracuse by the legions of Roman Emperor Probus sometime after AD 280. This legend also lacks documentary evidence and is inconsistent with ampelographic findings.
